The LaSalle County Coroner's Office says DNA means will be used to identify a body found on the south bank of the Illinois River near the Route 251 Bridge on Saturday. According to the coroner's office, an autopsy was performed on Sunday and showed that the body is male.
The coroner's office says at this time, the case is separate from the missing persons case of 25-year-old Jelani Day, of Bloomington, who was reported missing a few weeks ago.
The coroner's office says identification could take several weeks due to the condition of the body.
Police found Day's vehicle last week in a wooded area near Peru. Day is an Illinois State University graduate student. Police are asking for anyone with information on his disappearance to contact them.
