A Crystal Lake man earlier this week accepted a plea deal for a ten-year prison sentence stemming from a shooting last year in Huntley. Kane County prosecutors say 22-year-old Kyle A. Campbell shot a man multiple times in the midsection after a drug deal went bad. Campbell pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
In February of last year, Campbell agreed to sell the victim marijuana. The two met in a garage at a home in Huntley when Campbell is said to have stolen the money the victim had brought to pay for the drugs at gunpoint. The victim demanded his money back and was beaten by two other men before being shot by Campbell. The victim survived the shooting.
State's Attorney Jamie Mosser says the case illustrates the danger of illegal drug trade for both the defendant and victim. She says the case could have easily turned into a murder over just around $160.
Campbell will need to serve 85 percent of his sentence.
