LaSalle County State’s Attorney Todd Martin had but a few words to describe the murder of a 21-year old Ottawa woman.

A Mokena man, 29-year-old Michael Steven Swift has been charged with three counts for first degree murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend Grace Ann Taylor, age 21.  She lived alone and was found dead in her apartment in the 300 block of West McKinley Road  Monday morning.

Ottawa Police Captain Mike Cheatham spoke about the crime and investigation in a press conference Wednesday.

This is LaSalle County Coroner Rich Ploch.

LaSalle County State’s Attorney Todd L. Martin answered questions from the media.

Bond was set at $3 million for Swift with his next court date May 6th court appearance.  If convicted Swift faces 20-60 years in prison without parole.  Martin also said that there is the potential for an elevated sentence range because of murder’s brutality.

Three people have been murdered in LaSalle County in the last 35 days.  Sandwich resident Donald A. Fredres was charged with six counts of murder for shooting his ex- wife’s parents in Northville Township when they refused to provide his her address.
