A developer is considering Sandwich for a housing project that aims to accommodate adults over fifty and veterans.

Steve Jakupi, with Starr Design Construction, spoke to the Sandwich City Council Monday night about the project. Jakupi is looking at two properties. One off Route 34 just east of the Montcler Hotel and a second one, owned by the city, near the Sandwich Fairgrounds.

Jakupi says the development would be for single family, ranch-style homes. What he is looking for from the city of Sandwich is information about utility access for both properties and possible tax help for the property off of Route 34, which was supposed to be developed into a waterpark previously. Kendall County holds a hefty tax debt on the property.

Sandwich Mayor Todd Latham said the city would take steps to help get the ball rolling on the project.

Jakupi says he's looking to start a project by spring of next year. He says that he has architects and engineers ready to go, he just needs to find a location.
