An Elgin man was ticketed on Saturday after police say he crashed into a parked Illinois State Police (ISP) squad car on I-90, just east of Route 53 in Cook County.
26-year-old Martin A. Estanez Landa, of Elgin, is charged with violation of Scott's Law, aggravated driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, not having a valid driver's license, and improper lane usage.
Police say Estanez Landa was heading east on I-90 when he veered to the left and hit a parked squad car. The ISP trooper working on a abandoned, stolen vehicle investigation wasn't hurt. The squad car did have its emergency lights on. Estanez Landa was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
This year, twenty ISP squad cars have been hit and twelve troopers have been injured in Scott's Law crashes.
