The family of a Yorkville teen is set to receive $4.25 million in a settlement as a result of a crash that happened last year.

Thirteen-year-old Joey Burdiak was killed in the two vehicle crash on Route 71 near Ravine Court. Police say a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Santos C. Martinez, of Aurora, crossed the center line on Route 71 and hit the vehicle Burdiak was riding in causing it to spin out of control and hit a guardrail. Joey's father who was driving, Michael Burdiak, was also injured. Martinez was not hurt.

According to a news release from Chicago-based law firm Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, Martinez was driving a work vehicle for Upland Concrete, Inc. The settlement was reached between the company and the Burdiak family last week.

Joey Burdiak was a student at Yorkville Middle School and played violin in the school's band.
