Oswego Fire Department Engine 11 28 2016

A group of Oswego firefighters and paramedics had an unusual call on Monday morning, and for one fireman, it was his first ever experience in nearly 20 years of serving the village.

Oswego fireman Jon Vickery told WSPY that emergency personnel helped deliver a baby boy at a home on Kevin Ln. in unincorporated Oswego.

Vickery laughed and said a call like the one this morning doesn't come in every day.

He says this is the first time in his career he's ever been on a birth call in a home setting.

While Vickery took the lead, he says he couldn't have made the delivery without the help of his fast thinking crew.

Vickery says he and his colleagues are trained to deliver a child, but he says it had been a few years since he went through his OB unit training.

The mother and child were taken to Rush Copley Hospital, shortly after the home delivery.
