The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has released guidelines for Halloween activities.

IDPH says outdoor events are safer than indoor ones and says that costume masks should not be used in lieu of a tight fitting cloth mask. Masks are required for indoor spaces per executive order from the governor.

With any events happening indoors, IDPH recommends keeping windows and doors open to encourage airflow.

For trick-or-treating outdoors, IDPH says small groups are best. People are encouraged to avoid crowds. Anyone handing out candy should frequently wash their hands.
