Unemployment rate climbs to 4% as 304K jobs added in January

Illinois' statewide unemployment rate was down in August according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

The rate dropped from 7.1 percent in July to 7.0 percent in August. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Illinois added 2,500 jobs in August.

In August, the industry sectors with the biggest gains in jobs were leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and government. The industry sectors with the biggest losses include educational and health services, trade, transportation, and utilities, and other services.

Illinois' unemployment rate is up 1.8 percent compared to the national rate in August which is at 5.8 percent. The number of people looking for work in Illinois, but couldn't find it is at 435,900
