Kane County Circuit Judge James R. Murphy has announced his retirement in July after serving on the bench for over twelve years. Murphy was first elected in 2008 and from 2013 to 2020 was the presiding judge of the Kane County Civil Division.
Murphy is from Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School. He received his law degree from Southern Illinois university. Murphy practiced law for 25-years before becoming a judge.
A replacement will be appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court. until an election can be held next year to fill the vacancy.
