A Kendall County Corrections Deputy has been named Juvenile Officer of the Year by the Illinois Juvenile Officers Association. The award was given to Deputy Chris Phillips for his work in developing the Kendall County Sheriff's Office Youth Police Academy.
The academy aims to introduce fourteen to eighteen-year-olds to the field of law enforcement and allows for police and young people to connect. Participants attend lectures, role-play mock scenarios, and do community service.
Sheriff Dwight Baird says he's extremely proud of Deputy Phillips and that he exemplifies the dedication the sheriff's office toward creating meaningful relationships with youth in the community.
