The Kendall County Sheriff's Office has received use of force certification from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.
The certification means that the sheriff's office use of force policies are aligned with local, state, and federal laws. The certification also means that the sheriff's office is eligible for federal grants.
The certification was required by a 2020 Executive order singed by President Donald Trump.
Sheriff Dwight Baird says the culture in the Kendall County Sheriff's Office is to be fair, unbiased, and only resort to the use of force when it's reasonable and necessary. Baird says the department regularly reviews its policies and practices.
