A bill backed by Democratic Oswego State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit was signed into law in late August.
The bill creates the Veterans' Service-Based Ailments Task Force to look at how Illinois can improve the rate which disability claims are approved by the federal government and help solve the disparities between state and federal jurisdictions.
The task force will be required to meet at least once every two months and consists of fifteen members.
Kifowit says that too many veterans fall through the cracks because of jurisdiction disputes about who should be supporting and protecting a veteran with a service-related ailment. Kifowit says the task force will look for ways to improve the process.
