The man shot in an officer involved shooting in DeKalb Monday morning has died, according to a press release from the DeKalb Police Department.

Police responded to a domestic battery call in the 100 block of Tilton Park Drive at around 2:45 AM Monday. Upon arrival, officers were met with a woman saying that a man in the home had been drinking and was armed with a Samurai Sword, threatening to kill the woman and attack officers. The woman told police that he was a danger to himself and had self-inflicted wounds.

Police spoke with the man through the front door for several minutes, convincing him to open the door. At that point, the man grabbed the sword, and allegedly advanced towards officers with the weapon over his head. Police ordered the man to drop the sword, to no avail. Police initially used a stun gun. One officer fired one round striking the male in the chest. The unidentified man died. The officer that fired the shot is on administrative leave.
