The Village of Montgomery on Thursday closed Mayfield Drive to local and thru traffic. The closure has been discussed by the village board for some time and was approved in May.
It's in response to safety concerns about the street brought to the village by residents from both the Montgomery Crossings Townhomes and Saratoga Springs subdivision.
There are now barriers and signs north of the Mayfield Drive and Roxbury Lane intersection. People who disobey the new traffic patterns could be fined for $164. The village board and staff will monitor and review the success of the closure during the next calendar year. The village says people should consider the closure to be permanent.
Fire, ambulance, police, public works, school buses, and village designated contractors are exempt from the closure.
