Several Northwestern Medicine locations will be holding prescription drug take back events on Saturday which is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Among the sites with drive-up collection are Valley West Hospital in Sandwich and Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb from ten to two. There are also several suburban pickup sites including in St. Charles and Winfield.
According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, prescription drug abuse is the second most common form of drug abuse in America. The 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that most misused prescription drugs came from friends and family or were simply taken from the medicine cabinet.
The Aurora Police Department is also having a prescription drug take back event at Police Headquarters on E. Indian Trail from ten to two. In addition, many police stations and government buildings have places to deposit unused prescription drugs that are available anytime.
