Just after dismissal Tuesday, a Batavia School District 101 bus taking 39 students home was involved in a car in a head-on collision on Hart Road, a few blocks from the Rotolo Middle School.
The 3:13 p.m. accident resulted in the death of the driver of a two-door 2007 Infiniti, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The deceased’s name has not been released, pending notification of kin.
One student was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to the Batavia Police Department. The school bus driver was uninjured in the crash.
Thirty-eight students were released on the scene without further treatment, some who suffered minor injuries reported as abrasions and soreness by the school district. Those students were returned to the middle school for parent pickup.
The Batavia Police Department is continuing its investigation. The residential roadway was closed for nearly four hours.
The accident occurred on 30 mile per hour Hart Road, north of the intersection with Peppermill Drive.
