UPDATE 1: A statement from the Oswego Fire Protection District Board of Trustees says that Chief Mike Veseling wasn't fired, but that the board of trustees decided not renew his contract. Veseling will remain on administrative leave through April 30. The statement says that over a period of time, several issues came up between Chief Veseling and the board of trustees that the two parties were unable to compromise on. The board thanks Veseling for the many positive changes to the district under his leadership.
Original Story: Chief Michael Veseling is no longer with the Oswego Fire Protection District. Deputy Fire Chief Joshua Flanders confirmed the news on Thursday. Flanders will be acting as chief in the meantime. He says there will be no interruptions in service.
Flanders had no further comment. Veseling has been the fire chief since 2015. WSPY news has reached out to former Chief Veseling for comment and is seeking comment from the fire board of trustees. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
