Oswego State Representative Stephanie Kifowit says there's a different atmosphere in the Illinois House of Representatives since longtime House Speaker Michael Madigan stepped down and since resigned from his House seat. Kifowit, who had been a candidate for Speaker, says House members are already meeting more often.

Kifowit says a legislative goal of hers is to make changes to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to prevent a situation like the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans Home. She also wants to tackle other veterans issues. Kifowit is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Kifowit has no hard feelings for former House Speaker and State Representative Michael Madigan.

Madigan's replacement in the house Edward Kodatt, who was sworn in Sunday, has already resigned. Kodatt is listed on the General Assembly's web site a former House Member. News reports say the resignation was over alleged questionable conduct.

Editor's note: corrected the last sentence to say conduct instead of contact.
