Plano residents can expect a water and sewer rate increase sometime this year. The Plano City Council Committee of the Whole again discussed the prospect now with some updated information from their engineering firm.
A twenty percent increase is being considered. Alderman Ben Eaton Chairs the Streets and Utilities Committee and says some increase is necessary.
The city water department is running a $1.4 million budget deficit and the sewer department is running a $900,000 deficit. Eaton also says the city has no money to make needed improvements to the water and sewer system.
Eaton notes that senior residents won't be paying any higher bills for water.
Other capital improvements listed as needs by the city include water main replacement, well rebuilds, and replacement of the Eldamain Road sewer interceptor.
