The Plano Police Department on Monday swore in its 24th officer at the Plano city council meeting, bringing the department up to what Chief of Police Jonathan Whowell says is full staffing.

24 is the number officers the department was looking for to fully patrol the city and have some officers in reserve.

Officer Daniel Reyes, who took the oath on Monday, comes from the Aurora University Police Department. He started on Tuesday.

Whowell also told the Plano City Council that officers are preparing for advancement exams.

Whowell is also reminding drivers to slow down and pay attention as the school year wraps up and more kids will be outside.
