The Grundy County Sheriff's Office has released audio from the call made by the deputy who had just been shot last week during a pursuit in Mazon.
Deputy Tyler Post can be heard in the audio requesting help and telling the dispatcher that he had been hit in the arm with a gunshot. Post was hit with three shots, but two were stopped by his bulletproof vest. Some listeners may find this audio disturbing. Listener discretion is advised.
Deputy Post is expected to make a full recovery. The alleged shooter, 18-year-old DeMarkus Denwiddie of Joliet, was arrested after a standoff with police at a nearby apartment complex. He's charged with attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery.
Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley says some nearby citizens came to Deputy Post's aid after he was shot.
The shooting happened after Deputy Post had pulled Denwiddie over for alleged speeding on Route 47 near Mazon when Dnewiddie allegedly sped off.
Post eventually hit Denwiddie's vehicle as Denwiddie was trying to do a u-turn disabling the vehicle in Mazon, at which point Denwiddie fled on foot. Deputy Post had nearly caught up to Denwiddie when police say he turned around and opened fire with a handgun, leading to a manhunt and Denwiddie's arrest.
