The Sandwich City Council Committee of the Whole last week decided to go in a different direction with a potential solar array near the city's sewer plant, just off Route 34.
The city had been in discussion with Keystone Energy about installing a solar array that would help power the plant and potentially cut the city's power bill. Mayor Todd Latham says there are still too many questions about the property, including if regulatory agencies would even allow a solar array to be in that spot.
Latham says there are also still some issues about the city's responsibility for the array that are unclear.
Latham says the city will think about asking other solar companies to pitch their ideas for the city.
Some other area governments have recently powered on solar arrays including Kendall County, the City of Plano, and the Fox Metro Wastewater Reclamation District.
