Sandwich physician Karissa Monney says it's still a good idea to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the annual flu going around this time of year.

Omicron is thought to be less severe than previous variants, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't take it seriously.

Monney says people can get vaccinated and follow safety guidelines to prevent sickness in general.

Most pharmacies are offering COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots. You can also get a flu shot at the same time.

Hospitals in the WSPY listening area have been warning of an increase in COVID-19 patients and long wait times at emergency rooms.

Monney is a doctor with Northwestern Medicine.
