Three fire departments responded to a bean field fire Sunday afternoon on Cook Road, northwest of Plano.
The Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District says sparks from a malfunctioning farm combine started a number of small fires in the field. The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District and the Big Rock Fire Protection District were also called to help due to the risk posed by dry conditions and high winds over the weekend.
The farmer was able to get the combine out of the field to perform maintenance to prevent the sparks, and the small fires were all extinguished.
No one was hurt and there was no crop damage as the fires were starting in the picked section of the field.
