Heavy rain, flooding on the way for Northeast

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is asking people to be prepared for flash flooding. One way is to keep an eye on local weather forecasts to know when potential flooding is coming.

A news release from IEMA says that anywhere it rains, it can flood. A flood watch means that flooding is possible and a flood warning means that flooding is happening or will happen soon for several days or weeks.

A flash flood warning means that a flash flood is happening or is imminent. A flash flood emergency means that severe flooding that is a threat to human life and can cause catastrophic damage is happening.

IEMA says never to cross a road that is covered in water.

It is also recommended to have a weather radio at home that is loud enough to wake people up in the case of severe weather.
