Dixon State Representative Tom Demmer is supporting a proposal meant to offset the impact of inflation on Illinois taxpayers. The relief would come in the form of a tax credit for those making less than $75,000 a year.
Demmer says the program could be paid for using COVID-19 relief funds since inflation has been driven up because of pandemic restrictions on businesses and job losses.
Demmer says lawmakers should be looking out for families and should respond when circumstances warrant it.
The legislation could be heard by lawmakers as early as January 4 when legislators are scheduled to be back in Springfield. The hope would be to have the bill in place in time for tax filing.
