Unemployment rate climbs to 4% as 304K jobs added in January

Illinois' state unemployment rate dropped in April this year compared to last year.

Last month's rate was at 4.2 percent. In April of 2022 the rate was at 4.5 percent. The March rate for this year was at 4.4 percent. The national unemployment rate for April was at 3.4 percent.

The state added about 8,500 jobs in April.

Industry sectors with the most job growth included manufacturing, construction, financial activities, and educational and health services. The sectors that lost the most jobs included government, leisure and hospitality, and other services.

There were about 275,000 unemployed workers in Illinois in April.
