Illinois' statewide unemployment fell in October to 6 percent from 6.2 percent in September. The Illinois Department of Employment Security said that the September number, reported as 6.8 percent in October, was adjusted due to a distortion from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that has been resolved.

Illinois added 40,900 jobs last month. The sectors with biggest gains in jobs were professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation, and utilities.  The sectors with the biggest job losses were information and educational and health service.

The unemployment rate in the whole U.S. was at 4.6 percent in October. It was down slightly from September which was at 4.8 percent.
