What happens if you're caught parked illegally in a private parking lot became clearer for the Oswego Village Board as trustees unanimously approved a new ordinance.
Oswego Trustee Jennifer Jones Sinott explained the background of the ordinance that now aligns with the Illinois Commerce Commission regulations.
Oswego Police Chief Jeff Burgner provided more information.
If a car owner arrives and their car has been hooked but not towed, first the car must be released, said Burgner. Oswego Village Attorney Karl Ottenson explained the cost to the car owner.
The village will be conducting an inventory of current no parking on private property locations and researching the towing companies listed on the signs.
Burgner said tow companies within the village will be informed by a mailed letter. In addition, the new ordinance may be placed on the village’s police department website or through social media.
