Two people are being charged in a September 12 crash that killed an Aurora man.
27-year-old Jesus I. Garcia, of Aurora, is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and obstructing justice. His father, 60-year-old Ismael Garcia Carrera, also of Aurora, is charged with destroying evidence.
The Kane County State's Attorney's Office alleges that Garcia was driving a pickup truck in the 200 block North Lincoln Avenue when he hit a parked vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, 59-year-old Michael Brooks, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police allege that Garcia left the scene and drove to a business owned by his father in the 1200 block of Jackson Street in Aurora. Garcia Carrera allegedly removed the truck's license plates, put the vehicle's roof cap back in place, swapped the tires and rims, and replaced the front grill which had been damage in the crash.
Jesus Garcia turned himself into police Monday. He appeared in bond court on Tuesday where his bail was set at $30,000. Garcia is not listed as in custody at the Kane County Jail. He's due back in court next month.
Garcia Carrera is due in court next week.
