Two homes were damaged by two separate fires on Aurora's east side on Friday.

The residents in one home in the 1600 block of Edinburgh Lane had to be evacuated by firefighters after neighbors reported the back of the home burning. The Aurora Fire Department noted the home didn't have enough working smoke alarms that would have notified the residents to get out ahead of firefighters arriving. No one was hurt. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

A second home had some siding melted in the 1700 block of Winterfield Lane later that night. A bird's nest in lamp post started some nearby bushes on fire which melted the siding of a townhome. The fire was quickly put out and no one was hurt. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
