Sycamore-based Voluntary Action Center has received two grants from Meals on Wheels to support its local programs in several counties.
Community Relations Manager Barb Nadeau says one grant, worth $20,000 was used to purchased a vehicle to make food deliveries in LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties.
Nadeau says the vehicle is meant to get meals to clients with all the hot items still hot and the cold items still cold.
Nadeau says the vehicle will be important during the cold seasons.
Nadeau says between 350 and 600 meals are delivered each day.
Another grant worth $25,000 was used to buy needed equipment for both the DeKalb and LaSalle County programs including food packing machines, a commercial freezer, and more delivery supplies.
