The City of Sandwich recently received its first installment of American Rescue Plan funds from the federal government of over $500,000. The second installment is expected around the same time next year at the same amount.

Mayor Todd Latham says there are rules about how the money can be used, but some could be spent on a water rate study. The city already has a recent sewer study on hand.

Latham said during Monday's City Council Committee of the Whole meeting that something has to be done about the city's water infrastructure.

The city council hasn't made any decisions yet on a possible rate hike.

Latham also wants to use the American Rescue Plan grant funds to pay for a third party audit of the city's technology infrastructure.

Latham says the results of that study will help show the city what it has versus what it needs. The city's finance committee can then start to budget for the improvements.
