The president of Waubonsee Community College says extensive COVID-19 safety measures that have been in place since the school returned to in person learning last year are working.

Dr. Christine Sobek says the campus is in compliance with state and local COVID-19 safety rules and follows a layered approach to safety.

Last month, the Waubonsee faculty union had passed a vote of no confidence in Dr. Sobek over what it thought were unsafe conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sobek says there have been very few cases of COVID-19 among students and staff.

Sobek says there have been only 82 known cases of the virus.

The college continues to offer remote learning for those not comfortable on campus. WSPY News did reach out to the Waubonsee faculty union for comment on this story.
