The Yorkville American Legion cut a check for $3,000 for the Kendall County Sheriff's Office K9 program. The check was presented at the sheriff's office Wednesday afternoon.

American Legion Commander Anthony Cella says the legion wants to support the community and sold tee-shirts and sweatshirts at several events to raise the funds.

Cella says the K9 department was picked because it often gets passed over for recognition despite its important work.

The sheriff's office said in a news release that it is honored and humbled by the donation from the American Legion. Cella says the legion has a special appreciation for local first responders.

The sheriff's office says its thankful to the Yorkville American Legion and the Kendall County community for their continued support.
