The Yorkville City Council on Tuesday voted to approve a trash hauling contract with waste management company Groot. The city had requested proposals to provide garbage service back in October.

Yorkville City Administrator Bart Olson says Groot had the best price.

Under the new contract a 65 gallon bin will cost residents $18.79 a month. A 96 gallon bin will cost $18.99 a month. The contract includes recycling, electronics recycling, and removal of one bulk item per week under 50 pounds.

Some alderman expressed concern over the 50 pound limit. Josh Molnar, with Groot says crews won't be measuring the weight of items and that any bulk items that can be fit into the truck will be taken.

The city and Groot will try to keep the pickup schedule mostly the same, but there will likely be some changes. Olson says the new services will start in the spring.

Seniors can request a smaller garbage bin at a slightly reduced price. The contract also includes a period where yard waste will be taken.
