The Yorkville Police Department has formed a crisis intervention team which can respond to various mental health calls. The goal of the team to assist those having a mental health crisis and their families with dignity and compassion.
Deputy Police Chief Behr Pfizenmaier says officers on the crisis intervention team receive special training.
Pfizenmaier says the department is committed to staying on top of current methods for responding to mental health crises.
Pfizenmaier says patience and understanding are part of the training.
The police department also plans to work with the Kendall County Health Department, and other community organizations, to get people help after a mental health crisis.
Part of the Yorkville Police Department's mission statement for crisis intervention is to "assist in progressing physical and emotional recovery from crisis events."
