One person was arrested after a pursuit and shooting that occurred in Morris around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20th. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Martin Craig, 33, of Joliet south of Morris.
The pursuit was terminated south of the Illinois River Bridge and Craig then struck another vehicle in the area of Route 47 and Green Acres Drive. After the accident, Craig fled the scene on foot and ran behind the Super 8 Motel.
The Morris Police Department Craig then discharged his firearm once into the ground. Craig then fled inside of R.P. Home and Harvest and after a brief standoff, he was taken into custody. No one was injured during the R.P. standoff and one person was transported to Morris Hospital from the accident.
Craig was arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Fleeing and Eluding, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
Craig remains in the Grundy County Jail. Craig has been to prison six prior times for Obstructing Justice in 2007, Residential Burglary in 2008, for Robbery in 2010, Aggravated Fleeing in 2014 and in 2016 and for Receiving Stolen Property, Aggravated Battery To a Police Officer and Dealing Drugs in 2017.
He was released on parole in December of 2020. The Morris Police Department was assisted by the Grundy County Sheriff's Department, the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, Grundy County Emergency Management Agency. The investigation remains ongoing and more charges could be added.
