Mary loved people through food. It was the way she served others. Rarely did anyone leave her home without a generous portion of something delicious. In her well-stocked strawberry-themed kitchen, she was constantly baking and cooking for family, friends, neighbors and fellow church members.
She enjoyed reading recipe books, testing recipes and adjusting them to her liking. She was always resourcefully preparing food ahead, whether that be brewing a spare container of sun tea on her porch or freezing an entire season's worth of sweet corn or strawberries to enjoy throughout the winter.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed tending to her elaborate garden and sharing her harvest with others. She could grow anything and loved watching it grow. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her grapevines and carrots. In the winter months she enjoyed getting her seed catalogs and planning ahead for her garden. She always looked forward to the first robins arriving as a sign of spring and would call for Becky as soon as she spotted one.
She loved visiting with her friends, and in her later years, enjoyed phone visits with them.
