Tom Raitt passed away on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at Rush Copley Medical Center with his wife by his side. Tom was born in Vinton, Iowa on September 2, 1946 to Louis “Touie” and Maxine Raitt.

He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Tom worked his way through college by painting houses and farmsteads around his eastern Iowa home. He continued that love of painting and was always willing to help family members paint. After graduation, Tom was drafted into the Army and worked as a military police officer at Fort Collins in Colorado. He then went on to work in the insurance and pension industries. After retirement, Tom became active in volunteering. He volunteered for both the Fox Valley Court Watch and the Kendall County Food Pantry. Tom’s pride and joy was his family. He was a caring, gentle man with a silly sense of humor who adored and was adored by his family. They were the center of his world. He was a loving, perfect partner to Heidi during their 26 years together. Whether it was watching college sports while eating wings, collecting crazy NCAA team hats, or having goofy conversations that ended with a laughing “Good talk – bye now,” he always loved being with his kids. His grandkids always knew his home was an extension of their homes, and that were loved beyond compare. Tom was someone who could be counted on to love you unconditionally, give advice without judgment, and be there for you no matter what.

Tom is survived by his wife Heidi; children Nick (Jennifer), Randi, and Jake; grandchildren Cooper,  Jessie, Madeline, Maxine, Levi, Brandon, and Lettie; his sister Lynette (Doug); father-in-law Ron; brother-in-law Monte (Kathy); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Terry; sister-in-law Sherry; and mother-in-law Diane.
