Gavin Hjelle from Oswego East, just a junior, won the Southwest Prairie Conference boys golf meet with a 70 firing Birdies on the final two holes to over come Luke Petrovic from Minooka who had a 72. The meet was held at Whitetail Ridge Golf Course in Yorkville. Oswego East Head Coach Jim Vera simply said Hjelle “Play Great” after getting double bogies on the 1st and 13th holes ;he fired Birdies on the final two holes to come from behind for the title.
Oswego East finished 2nd overall to Plainfield North who had a 306 team score with the Wolves from Oswego East finishing 2nd with a 324. Yorkville was 3rd on the day with a 330 and Oswego finished the day with a 335 good for 4th place. Minooka was 5th with a 337, Plainfield Central next with a 346, Plainfield East shot a 353, West Aurora carded a 359 to round out the top eight teams.
Petrovic was named the MVP of the Conference with Jonathan Waugh and his brother Ryan Waugh of the Yorkville Foxes finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Petrovic. Joining Hjelle for Oswego East with All-Conference honors were his teammates Camden Bonney and Michael Hugelier. The Oswego Panthers landed four players on the All-SPC team, Jack Rimington, Jacob Kelly, Riley O’Connor and Joey Barenie.
