The Newark Norsemen Girls Basketball captured the title of the Little 10 Conference Tournament on Saturday night with a 52-34 win over Somonauk-Leland. Newark was Seeded 2nd this year and Somonauk-Leland was the 5th Seed.
Newark led 16-6 after the 1st quarter, but the Lady Bobcats Coop outscored Newark 17-9 in the 2nd quarter to cut their deficit to just 2 points 25-23 at the half. Maggie Roberts led the comeback with 13 of her game high 21 points in the 2nd, including 10-10 from the free throw line.
Newark would regain their defensive and offensive composure in the 3rd quarter holding the Lady Bobcats to just 1 free throw from Ashley Eaton. Newark would only score 12 points of their own, but they increased their lead to 37-24 going into the 4th quarter. Kaitlyn Hatteberg would score 8 of her team leading 14 points in the 4th to ice things for Newark.
Kellie Snyder helped Newark as well in the win as she hauled in 13 rebounds. Both Lindsey Hatteberg and Kailee Borton each added 7 points to the Newark effort. Eaton would secure 10 rebounds for the Lady Bobcats and added 7 points. Newark is now 4-1 and Somonauk-Leland fell to 3-4.
Indian Creek won the 3rd Place game at home 52-30 over Hinckley-Big Rock. The 40th edition of the Girls Little 10 Tournament is in the books.
