The Newark Lady Norsemen once again won the Title of Champions of the Little 10 Conference Tournament as they defeated Indian Creek in the title game 55-45 Friday night at Earlville.
Newark had opened up the tournament as the number one seed by defeating 69-22 on Monday night with Kaitlynn Hatteberg netting a game high 20 points and Meggie Scott scoring 10 points and dishing out 13 assists. Hatteberg also had a double-double as she hauled in 10 rebounds.
Newark moved on to the semi-finals against host and 4th seeded Earlville and with a big surge in the first half opening up a 39-16 lead at the half on the way to a 63-32 win. Jocelyn Mitchell led the scoring parade for Newark with 19 points. Scott again hit double digits with 10 points.
The title game proved to be a bit more of a challenge for the Lady Norsemen as Indian Creek got a strong performance for the 3rd straight game from Brook Heiman as she tallied a game high 27 points for the Timberwolves. On this night though Scott would hit for 24 big points and again add a game high 9 assists to lead the Lady Norsemen to the title. Mitchell and freshman teammate Bre Dixon each added 10 points to the Newark totals.
Newark has won the title for the second consecutive year and have won 8 titles in the 39 year history of the Little 10 Girls Tournament. Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen!
