Both teams were certainly eager to get back of the gridiron after such a long break of about 16 months away from high school football. Plano won the game 20-7 at home as they nearly shutout the visitors who scored late to avoid the shutout.
Plano Head Coach Rick Ponx went with 3 quarterbacks juniors Carson Gill and Ray Jones along with sophomore Samuel Sifuentes. Obviously it worked in week 1 that is for sure. Jones rushed for 51 yards on the day and Gill scored 2 touchdowns.
Tony Licea, who was the Reapers leading rusher in 2019, led the offense with 79 yards rushing on the day. Sebastian Estrada caught a pass for 12 yards from Sifuentes.
Defensively the Reapers allowed just that one late score. Nehemiah Denton had 11 tackles and Eddie Hernandez, who moved from inside linebacker to the D line, had 8 tackles and a 9 yard sack. Tristan Canfield forced 2 fumbles and Eddie Sanchez was in on 7 tackles.
